The Indians had some tough breaks last season, and could have been closer to .500 than the 3-7 final record. Still, Seth Gillis and Chance Schmeltz were huge producers who now are gone. The defense was pretty good, and has a chance to continue that trend. Connor Chastain as a 3rd-year starter at QB will hope to explode with a monster senior season. Towns County will need that if the Indians intend on making state for the first time since 2017 and second time ever.

Head Coach: Jason Roquemore, 5th season
2022 Record:
3-7; No Playoffs

“This year I have been really impressed with our senior leadership and how they have been able to impact their teammates thus far,” says coach Jason Roquemore. “We have a great mix and balance of guys who have a lot ‘grass time’ under their belts as well as a very talented sophomore class that will need to develop and take the next step. As far as expectations for this coming season, I think confidence and consistency will be key. Our kids have embraced our standard and believe we can make a playoff push.”

Personnel & Schemes

Key Departures: Seth Gillis, Chance Schmeltz

Do-it-all Gillis and stud defensive player Schmeltz will be the most-missed for Towns County.

Returning Starters: 7 on offense; 7 on defense

Key Returning Players: Connor Chastain, Julian Mosley, Andrew Brinson, Stone Chauncey, Ian Arrowood

Anytime you have a 3-year starter at QB, that’s a big plus. Mosley was one of the go-to receivers.

Up & Coming Players: Dustin Barrett (missed all of last year with broken collar bone), Morgan Walker

“We are looking for Barrett to contribute in all 3 phases,” says Roquemore. “Also, we are excited about the development of inside linebacker Morgan Walker.”

Offense: Multiple

The offense will start with Connor Chastain. This has to be his major breakout year as a senior. Barrett will be the go-to back, and likely would have been last season save the injury. Mosley will be Chastain’s favorite target.

Defense: 3-4

This unit will feature ILB Ian Arrowood and OLBs Colton Garrett and Michael Houser.

Trenches:

“Offensively, we will need to lean on the experience of Andrew Brinson and Stone Chauncey,” says Roquemore. “We are excited about the development and offseason that CJ Lambert has had. Defensively, we are hoping that Justin Miles Hill will anchor that unit. We have several guys that still competing for those spots.”

Strengths & Areas of Focus

Strengths: Senior Leadership (Chastain, Arrowood, Garrett, Chauncey, Houser, Brinson-Leadership Council)

Focusing On: “Being the best version of ‘ourselves’ and getting the most out of each other,” adds Roquemore.
