
A monster season by Dawson County’s junior outfielder netted a Player of the Year award for Julian Horner! With the honors comes high expectations for what will hopefully be an even bigger senior year in 2024!

Junior right fielder Julian Horner hit .360 after going 32-for-89 at the plate. He blasted 8 homers, drove in 32 runs while scoring 39, drew 23 walks, and added 4 doubles and a triple. He registered a .548 OBP, .697 SLG, and 1.244 OPS.

Voting included our 16-person panel made up of sports reporters, writers, video producers, former coaches, players, GHSA officials, and sports experts. The voting is Heisman-style, with the following points system:
1st place votes: 5 pts; 2nd: 3 pts; 3rd: 2 pts; 4th: 1 pts; 5th-6th: 0.5 pts; 7th-8th 0.25 pts
Horner took the top spot, but four total players had 1st-place votes. Frankey Moree was close behind him in the voting, and Mason Dawe and Harper Davenport had 1st-place tallies. Former BLITZ Player of the Year Hampton Hutto finished 7th this year after winning it last season.

Julian Horner becomes the first Dawson County player since 2020 to win the award, and 5th overall from Dawsonville. He’s the second junior in a row to claim the honors, giving him a chance to make it back-to-back as a senior. Only two others have done that – former Dawson great Hudson Sapp and White County’s David Sosebee.
