Sean Hughes secured a state title, and polishes off his career with BLITZ Track & Field Athlete of the Year honors. It’s well-deserved, as the senior showed time and again his ability to be among the best athletes in our area.

Sean Hughes was a 3-time Region Champion as a senior, and a State Champion in the Long Jump with a 22-3 distance. He was also the Region Champion in the Triple Jump and was 6th at state, and PRd with a 44-6.5 at Region. Overall, he had 6 1st-place finishes in individual events this season, and was invited to compete in the Wingfoot Night of Champions, where he came in 4th in the Long Jump.

1st place votes: 5 pts; 2nd: 3 pts; 3rd: 2 pts; 4th: 1 pts; 5th-6th: 0.5 pts
7th-8th 0.25 pts

Sean Hughes takes the 8 1st-place votes and rides that to the win here. Willie Goodwyn (Rabun County), Sammy Brown (Jefferson), and Brad Chosewood (Habersham) all took multiple 1st-place votes in a crowded room of athletes.
