The BLITZ Track & Field Athletes of the Week Fan Vote winner was Dawson County’s Boys 4×200 Relay team, as they took 4,680 votes out of the 9,710 total. BLITZ then named White County’s Sean Hughes and Jefferson’s Sammy Brown as Co-Athletes of the Week.

DAWSON COUNTY 4X200 RELAY

The Dawson County 4×200 Relay team made history in last week’s Region Championships. The group, consisting of senior Alex Rimawi, sophomores Jaden Horner and Aaric Muilenburg, and senior Will Kurtz, broke a school record with a time of 1:33.42, finishing as Region Champions!

SEAN HUGHES – WHITE COUNTY

Senior Sean Hughes was instrumental to the dominance of White County in the Region Championships. He claimed 2 individual titles and was on a relay team that won as well. In the triple jump, Hughes recorded a distance of 44-06 to be atop 7-AAA. He was at the top in the long jump as well after going for 22-05. In the 4×100 Relay team, his group won with a 43.44 time. This is Hughes’ first POW award.

SAMMY BROWN – JEFFERSON

Sammy Brown has to be one of the best overall athletes in the country. Period. The nation’s top LB in the Class of 2024 (5-star recruit) stood out in the Region 8-AAAA Championships last week. The junior was the Region Champ in the long jump with a 22-2.5, and Region RU in the 100 (10.80) and 200 (22.21). This is Brown’s 8th career POW award.
