Towns County had an early jolt last year by getting 3 wins early on. That got the community hopping, and put life back in a program that went 0-10 in 2019. COVID issues prevented a full 10-game season, and falling in a number of games in heartbreaking fashion is all that kept the Indians out of the postseason for just the second time.

Head Coach: Jason Roquemore, 3rd Season
2020 Record:
3-6; No Playoffs

“We are looking to build off last year, as we were 12 points away from being 6-3 instead of 3-6,” says coach Jason Roquemore. “We gotta find a way to WIN the close ones.”

Personnel & Schemes

Key Departures: Reace Hampton, Caleb Cook, Conner King, Hayden McClure, Mason Thomas, Garrett Oakes, Jake McTaggart (transferred back to Hayesville)

Key Returning Players: Kyle Oakes, Collin Crowder, Seth Gillis

The team returns talented RB Kyle Oakes, who at one point early last season was the leading rusher in the state in Class 1A.

Up & Coming Players: Connor Chastain, Seth Gillis

Offense: Multiple. Connor Chastain will lead the way at QB as a sophomore, as Kyle Oakes will be the go-to back and Collin Crowder the go-to option in the passing game.

Defense: 3-4. Look for linebackers Seth Gillis and Ian Arrowood, as well as DL Jacob Young to be the leaders there.

Trenches: OL/DL depth exists. With over 40 guys on the roster (much higher than usual for Towns), there are more options within the trenches. AJ Edwards and Andrew Brinson have had a great offseason.

Strengths & Areas of Focus

Strengths: Leadership at the skill position (Collin Crowder WR/DB and RB/DB Kyle Oakes)

Focusing On: Being the best version of themselves.

“We are EXPECTING to be GREAT,” says Roquemore.

  2. […] The Indians might have been the best 3-win team in Class 1A. Just plays away from being 6-3. Unfortunately, a bunch of the key guys are gone, including D-I prospect Jake McTaggart (who went back to Hayesville), starting QB Mason Thomas, and leading WR Hayden McClure. The good news is that Kyle Oakes, who emerged as one of the top RBs in yardage last season in 1A, is back for his senior year. Others will need to develop quickly. The depth on the team has also gotten better, as coach Jason Roquemore has continued to get more kids into the program. SEASON PREVIEW […]
