
In an always highly-anticipated matchup between arch-rivals, Towns County and Union squared off in an early season Tuesday night game for both the girls and boys. Towns won both, though the girls game proved to be a thriller.
In the girls game, neither team every went up by more than 4 points at the close of any quarter. Union held a 1-point lead at the end of the first and a 2-point lead at break. Towns County knotted the score up by the end of three quarters, and the score remained tied through the end of regulation.

The two team held even through the first overtime. In the second overtime, senior Vanessa Floyd hit a free throw to give Towns County a slim 43-42 lead with under 30 seconds left. Towns County’s defense held the lead until the end of the game to capture a 43-42 victory in double overtime. Towns was led by Floyd with 15 points, while sophomore Sarah Shook scored 9 points and senior Kennedi Henson scored 7. Union was led in scoring by Ava Hunter’s 17 points.
The boys game featured a 61-37 blowout win for Towns, as Jake McTaggart, a Hayesville transfer, dropped about 15 points (unofficial stats). Kolby Moss had about the same output.
Towns girls are 1-0 on the season.
