THE LOCALS
#2 Jefferson 28, #1 Rabun County 14
377 yards on the ground oughta do it. Malaki Starks had a pair of TD and over 150 on the ground. Carter Stephenson and Jordan Perry also scored, while Gunner Stockton had a TD pass, and Lang Windham a rushing score in the 28-14 game. It was tied at 7 going into the half before Jefferson used an 8-minute drive to open the third quarter and went ahead for good.
#6 White County 42, Pickens 7
White County won 42-7 and did it classy. The Warriors didn’t attempt a second half pass after going up 28-0 at the break. J Ben Haynes got a 3-yard TD run to open it up, and added a 7-yarder to go up 14-0. A Silas Mulligan 9-yd TD made it 21-0 after just one. Haynes found Darius Cannon for a 65-yd TD to open the second and push it to 28-0. Mulligan added another TD run in the third, and Riley Stancil had a 2-yard TD late in the third to make it 42-0.
Towns County 43, Lumpkin County 14
Towns earned a second straight win and jumped all over Lumpkin. Hayden McClure scored two TDs in the opening quarter. Kyle Oakes added a 4-yd TD run to make it 21-0 before McClure added his third on a 23-yd TD to go up 28-0. Nick Houser added a field goal to quickly make it 31-0, and then Oakes had a 43-yd TD to go up 37-0, which held to the half.
South Forsyth 63, Dawson County 49
Dawson stayed in the game throughout, and a Jaden Gibson TD catch from Zach Holtzclaw brought it to within 26-21 late in the first half. South Forsyth pulled away in the second half, going up 42-21. Holtzclaw did find Gibson again for a 30-yd TD, but South Forsyth went crazy in the second half, finishing with 63 points. Still, Holtzclaw and his 350 passing yards and 5 TD (4 to Gibson), had Dawson driving for a game-tying score in the final seconds. A 102-yd interception return though handed the Tigers a heart-breaking loss.
Union County 39, Chestatee 14
Union jumped all over Chestatee and got their first win of 2020. Eli Pugh got a pick-6 on the first play of the game to set the tone. Carson Walker made it 14-7 with a 3-yd TD early in the second, and added a 40-yd TD later in the quarter. Mason McCombs made it 24-13 at the break with a field goal. Walker took the opening second half kickoff back 90-plus for the 32-13 lead after a 2PC. Logan Helcher’s late TD pass to Noah Underwood sealed the deal.
Banks County 23, East Jackson 22 (OT)
It was a thriller between East Jackson and Banks County, and Banks shook off a scoreless first half when Roman Haynes found the end zone in the third. In the fourth, Bowen Roberts threw an 8-yd TD to Wyatt Whitfield to push the lead to 16-0.
Stephens County 24, Jackson County 10
The Indians take a 24-10 win over Jackson County, moving to 2-1 on the season after only getting one win all of last season.
