In the first official state ranking polls for 2020, both volleyball and softball classifications were ranked by the AJC. The following local programs all earned the honors for the first week of the season.

VOLLEYBALL

Jefferson grabs the highest ranking of all local squads at #3 in Class 4A. Rabun and Union are region rivals, as are White and Dawson.

• Jefferson – #3 in Class 4A
• Dawson County – #7 in Class 3A
• White County – #10 in Class 3A
• Rabun County – #6 in Class 2A/1A Public
• Union County – #10 in Class 2A/1A Public

SOFTBALL

Defending state champions Banks County hold at #1. Region foes Union are close behind, and Lumpkin and Commerce both have a spot. The gross omission in the opening rankings HAS to be a mistake, and that’s not having Jefferson at all in the top 10 of Class 4A.
