Most every team has a few games under their belt, enough for us to bring some clarity to our previous Power Rankings. That said, here’s the rundown of where we rank the teams at the moment.

1. JEFFERSON
RECORD: 6-0 (2-0)
LAST RANKING: #1
The Lady Dragons are flawless, and ranked #3 in the state as of the latest poll. Among the local wins include a victory over Stephens County and Hab Central (in a season-opening scrimmage). Right now it’s hard to see any team in our area being able to beat this very talented and experienced group.
2. WHITE COUNTY
RECORD: 5-2 (1-0)
LAST RANKING: #3
The Lady Warriors got a big statement win over powerhouse Lumpkin, and have also taken down Habersham Central and even Dawson County in a non-counting scrimmage. One thing we’d love to see, but won’t, is a game against Jefferson. The girls are ranked #8 currently in the state, and were as high as #6 in the initial polls in Class 4A.

3. HABERSHAM CENTRAL
RECORD: 3-2-1 (1-0)
LAST RANKING: #6
Hab Central makes a big leap up our Power Rankings after big-time wins over Dawson and Lumpkin. Losing to Jefferson (scrimmage) and White County nestles them perfectly in the #3 spot. An opening win in region play is pivotal towards a playoff hope.
4. LUMPKIN COUNTY
RECORD: 2-3-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #2
The Lady Indians were ranked as high as #6 in the state, and still reside at #7 despite the misleading record. The non-region slate has been tough, but that only makes this team stronger for what’s to come. The notable area losses are to White County and Habersham Central.

5. COMMERCE
RECORD: 5-0 (2-0)
LAST RANKING: #11
A monumental leap up our Power Rankings after starting out perfect at 5-0 and 2-0 in region play. That includes two wins over state-ranked opponents. This team has scored more goals than any local program (50 goals counting the scrimmage), and are now ranked as the #1 team in the state in Class 1A. This is only the start of year two of the varsity program….
6. DAWSON COUNTY
RECORD: 2-5-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #4
The Lady Tigers are feeling the pressure after not having Mackenzie Kimbarl (reigning region POY) and star keeper Fallan Lacey (7 shutouts), as well as Rachel Rajczak (17 G, 10 A). Even with star striker Molly Muenchen (30 G, 11 A last season), this is not the start Dawson wanted. Losses to Habersham Central and White County (scrimmage) move them down a bit in our Power Rankings. However, this has been a tough stretch of games, and this team always seems to get better as the season goes on. Once at #7 in the state polls, the girls are out of the top 10 for the time being.

7. STEPHENS COUNTY
RECORD: 1-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #9
Stephens County has shown some promise with wins over Rabun and Banks (scrimmage), and its one loss came to Jefferson, where the defense did a solid job by allowing just 6 goals to an unreal Lady Dragons offense.
8. RABUN COUNTY
RECORD: 1-1 (1-0)
LAST RANKING: #8
The Lady Cats are off to a decent start through 2 games, but a loss to Stephens has them here on the rankings.

9. UNION COUNTY
RECORD: 0-1-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #5
It’s still so early for the Lady Panthers, who opened the season as the #6-ranked team in 2A. Despite these first two games, they’re still at #10. Until more games get in, we can’t give a more accurate picture of this group.

10. BANKS COUNTY
RECORD: 0-2-1 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #10
The Lady Leopards fell to Stephens once, placing them here in the rankings. The girls remain in search of win number one.
N/A. TOWNS COUNTY
RECORD: 0-0 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #7
So this is an impossible task, and no one can really argue where Towns belongs here without a single minute being played so far. That clarity will come with time.
