With 10 of our local teams in action for Week 2 (only Jefferson had the week off), there was the opportunity for a lot of movement. Let’s see how they all line up after the first two weeks are in the books.

#1 RABUN COUNTY WILDCATS
LAST RANKING: #1
WEEK 2: W 38-17 vs North Murray
NEXT: Bye
The #2-ranked Wildcats were firing on all cylinders once again. North Murray provided little in the way of competition. Rabun got off to a slow start (by their standards), but rode to the finish line for a blowout 38-17 win.
#2 UNION COUNTY PANTHERS
LAST RANKING: #2
WEEK 2: W 49-8 @ East Hall
NEXT: vs Towns County
The Panthers had Week 1 to prep even longer for this game, and the wait was worth it. Pierson Allison was great, but it was Jonah Daniel who stole the show with four touchdowns in the opener. Union County found itself up 28-0 at the break, and it was cruise control from there on out. The win was the 16th consecutive season-opening win, a rare feat indeed.

#3 DAWSON COUNTY TIGERS
LAST RANKING: #3
WEEK 2: W 45-42 @ Chestatee (OT)
NEXT: Bye
Dawson County survived a pesky Chestatee bunch behind a solid performance by Shawn Thomas and Zach Holtzclaw. The Tigers survived with a late score with 12 seconds left in regulation. Caleb Bonesteel walked it off with a field goal in overtime for the thrilling win.
#4 COMMERCE TIGERS
LAST RANKING: #4
WEEK 2: W 49-7 vs Athens Christian
NEXT: @ Hart County
The #3-ranked Tigers had little trouble with Athens Christian to open region play with a bang. Commerce was up 42-zip at the break, and pulled the starters and had a running clock the rest of the way.
#5 JEFFERSON DRAGONS
LAST RANKING: #5
WEEK 2: Bye
NEXT: vs West Hall
Jefferson was idle this week.

#6 WHITE COUNTY WARRIORS
LAST RANKING: #8
WEEK 2: W 49-6 vs Lumpkin County
NEXT: @ Habersham Central
The Warriors finally got to kick off their much-anticipated season, and did so in fine fashion with a rivalry win over Lumpkin, their long-time rivals. In the 50th edition of the series, it was White County with the third straight victory over the Indians. J Ben Haynes and Zion McMullen made sure there was little doubt in this one.
#7 STEPHENS COUNTY INDIANS
LAST RANKING: #6
WEEK 2: L 13-26 vs Hart County
NEXT: @ Athens Academy
Stephens County took a hard-fought win over rivals Hart County at the Reservation. The Indians

#8 HABERSHAM CENTRAL RAIDERS
LAST RANKING: #7
WEEK 2: L 20-26 vs Madison County
NEXT: vs White County
Habersham Central had a big game from Ryte Woodruff, but it wasn’t enough, as the Red Raiders came back for a late win to crush the Raiders hearts. This is all too familiar, as nearly every loss over the past two seasons has been late leads surrendered.

#9 BANKS COUNTY LEOPARDS
LAST RANKING: #10
WEEK 2: W 15-7 vs Franklin County
NEXT: Bye
Banks County rebounded from a tough opener with a hard-fought 15-7 win over pesky Franklin County. A great takeaway from the first two games is the defense…it has allowed just 14 points in the first two contests.

#10 LUMPKIN COUNTY INDIANS
LAST RANKING: #9
WEEK 2: L 6-49 @ White County
NEXT: @ Jackson County
The Indians dropped the third straight game in the series against White County. This one featured a few highlights, including Tucker Kirk and Drew Allison. Overall, a lot is to be desired from this young group, and they’ll have to piece it together quickly.
#11 TOWNS COUNTY INDIANS
LAST RANKING: #11
WEEK 2: L 12-56
NEXT: @ Union County
Towns County fell on the road to Gilmer, moving to 0-2 on the season.
