Over 13,000 votes came in for the Baseball Fan Vote Player of the Week (13,479 to be exact), and Commerce’s Kody Mintz was the overall vote winner with 6,557, edging Stephens’ Davis Swenson (4,343). BLITZ, however, tabbed Swenson and Dawon’s Hudson Sapp as Players of the Week as well for their outstanding efforts.
KODY MINTZ – FAN VOTE

Kody Mintz has really taken off the last week or so. The junior outfielder/designated hitter hit .539 and drove in 5 runs for the Tigers, and crossed the plate 6 times on his own during the past 3 games, as Commerce has moved to 16-10 overall on the season in a playoff push.
This is Mintz’s first Player of the Week award.
DAVIS SWENSON – BLITZ PICK

Stephens County has had to rely on its seniors quite a bit this season. Davis Swenson doesn’t mind the pressure. He thrives under it. So far this season, as the Indians are facing a pivotal last couple of games to ensure a playoff spot, the dominant pitcher has gone 5-2 with a 2.01 ERA and 70 strikeouts. He’s been solid at the plate as well, batting .388 with 20 RBI.
In the past 3 games, he hit .417 with 4 RBI and a pair of doubles. On the mound, he threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run and earning the win. This is Swenson’s first Player of the Week Award.
HUDSON SAPP – BLITZ PICK

Hudson Sapp earns his second Player of the Week Award this season and third in his career. The junior outfielder and Ole Miss commit hit a blistering .750 in a recent 3-game stretch, bashing a homer to highlight 7 RBI, 6 runs, 3 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 stolen bases as the Tigers face a tough road to the postseason.
