It’s officially the end of the winter sports scene, as all basketball teams have closed shop and all awards are handed out. As we leap into spring, here’s the official BLITZ Cup Standings update:
DAWSON COUNTY……………127 PTS
RABUN COUNTY……………….121 PTS
JEFFERSON………………………112 PTS
BANKS COUNTY……………….104 PTS
COMMERCE………………………99 PTS
UNION COUNTY………………..69 PTS
LUMPKIN COUNTY……………63 PTS
WHITE COUNTY………………..59 PTS
TALLULAH FALLS……………..57 PTS
STEPHENS COUNTY…………..39 PTS
TOWNS COUNTY……………….39 PTS
HABERSHAM CENTRAL…….33 PTS

Since the fall standings, Rabun slipped to second despite a stellar winter season. Dawson jumped from fifth place at the end of fall to the top spot. Jefferson and Banks County remain right there despite dropping one slot each, and the same for Commerce. Dawson had the most dramatic push in the winter sports season, adding nearly 70 points from its fall total. This was a direct result of both basketball teams having historic runs, with the boys making the Final Four and the girls the Elite 8.
Banks County was last year’s winner of the Cup, while Rabun won three straight from the ’14-15 school year through the ’16-17 year. Dawson County last won the BLITZ Cup in the 2012-13 school year, and also won the first-ever BLITZ Cup in 2009-10.
