Olivia Martinez has been tough to keep out of the lineup for Dawson County softball. It’s not often a freshman becomes an everyday player, but Martinez is making sure she stays in the lineup each game.
Weeks like last proved her worth, as the second baseman went 3-for-6 with a homerun, two RBI and three runs scored, as well as recording six putouts. Her solo homer proved to be the game-winner in a 4-1 win over GAC, which has Dawson County sitting in the fifth spot in the region standings, well within striking distance of a state playoff bid.

On the season, Martinez has hit .257 in 35 at-bats, with the one homer and 4 RBI, and a solid .881 fielding percentage. The Lady Tigers are 5-10 overall and 3-6 in region play. With the fewest runs scored in the region, Dawson will look for even more games like that last by Olivia Martinez.
