REASON(S): It was a bye week for the Cats, who take on Stephens County in their home opener. The last time they played on this field, it was for a state title.

#2 DAWSON COUNTY TIGERS

RECORD: 2-0
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2
REASON(S): Also a bye week for the Tigers, although their second win over Chestatee might as well have been a bye week. The starters played just over a quarter in that one. So these guys are well rested and ready to keep churning out some Ws.

#3 JEFFERSON DRAGONS

RECORD: 1-1
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4
REASON(S): Jefferson has had a lot of time to think about its season-opening nail-biting loss to a solid Oconee County team. They took the frustration out with a blowout win in Week 2. The Dragons are ready to run the table.

#4 COMMERCE TIGERS

PREVIOUS RANKING: #3
REASON(S): Commerce had another large win, moving to 3-0 on the season. The run game continues to produce so many playmakers.

#5 HABERSHAM CENTRAL RAIDERS

REASON(S): Habersham shocked White County when scoring 34 straight points after going down 20-0 on the road. The Raiders have a couple more non-region games to go before the much-anticipated region games begin.

#6 WHITE COUNTY WARRIORS

RECORD: 1-1

REASON(S): The Warriors were upended by Habersham Central, but there were many bright spots. This team bit itself with the turnovers and penalties.

#7 UNION COUNTY PANTHERS

RECORD: 2-0
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7
REASON(S): The Panthers obliterated Towns County to move to 30-1 all-time against its rivals.

#8 STEPHENS COUNTY INDIANS

RECORD: 2-1
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8
REASON(S): Stephens battled hard against 1A powerhouse Athens Christian, but it was a bit exposed in this one. There is still some work to be done.

#9 LUMPKIN COUNTY INDIANS

RECORD: 1-2
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10
REASON(S): The Indians couldn’t get much going against a ridiculous Jackson County offense and very stingy defense. It’s more of a testament of Jackson County. We think it’s time they get some love in the state rankings. But Lumpkin also has shown it needs to work on preventing one touchdown against to turn into many.
