The White County Lady Warriors won a thriller in the opening round, but that was not simply the end goal (no pun intended) for their season. Megan Runkle’s Lady Warriors (10-7-1) advanced to their first-ever Elite 8 with a PK win over Northwest Whitfield (17-3).
The game was scoreless throughout regulation against the #7 team in the state. The defense was phenomenal once again, forcing overtime twice before the dramatic win in PKs, including the game-winner by sophomore Bella Ramey.
Derrica Rohmeyer, Alexis Pashkovets, Cassidy Campbell, and Hannah Gerrells all converted their PKs as well. Dasha Cannon had a stellar game between the posts, and made a huge PK save, along with 4 other saves during the game.
White County will now travel to Spalding on Friday in the Elite 8 matchup. Spalding is ranked #6 in the state with a 16-2 record. For White County, this marks the first time since 2015 that the girls have won 10 or more games, but the fifth time in nine years they’ve eclipsed the double-digit win total.
