The Towns County Lady Indians (9-4) took down Christian Heritage in the opening round of the GHSA Class 1A State Tournament on Thursday night. The Lady Indians had no qualms about playing on the road, as Taylor Cornett and Sara Beth Hobbs both scored twice, and Georgia Southern signee Brooke Barrett found the back of the next once as well.

The win is monumental for Towns County. While the team has been to state in seven of the last eight seasons, the ninth win ties a school record (2016) and marks the first time the team advances past the first round.

Towns County moves on to face the winner of Weber and Walker, with the second round matchup slated for May 1.

The girls notched shutout number five on the season, and have allowed just 13 goals all season. The scoring outburst also marks the sixth time they have scored five or more goals, and second straight game doing so.
