Connor Pierce set out with one goal in mind in the Region 7-AAA Championships…to win a region title, as all participants aspire to. He accomplished the feat twice in top finishes in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash.

The two events are arguably some of the most intense to witness, as the entire finalist group goes from start to finish in under 13 seconds of the 100 meter.
Pierce blazed past his 100 meter dash competition with an 11.11, edging the runner-up by two-tenths of a second. In the 200, Pierce again finished ahead of all with a 22.65, about a half second ahead of the second place runner.
That’s not all…Pierce attempted the long jump for only the second time in his career. He was the region runner-up, posting a distance of 21-09.75.

It’s also worth noting the junior’s improvement over the course of the season. On February 27, at a meet at Chestatee, he posted 11.47 in the 100 and 23.59 in the 200, both good for first place at the meets. His region PRs were 0.36 seconds quicker in the former and almost a whole second faster in the latter.
Pierce lifted the Indians to a fourth place overall finish at the Region Championships. If the name Pierce for Lumpkin sounds familiar, especially in the 100 and 200 meter, it’s because it is. Just a few short years ago, Connor’s brother Austin was a state champion in the 100 meter in his junior year (2015).
