Rachel Gearing and Jay Lepkoske, two White County track and field athletes, were outstanding in their Region 7-AAAA Championships this week. Their individual performances earned them BLITZ Player of the Week awards.
Gearing won the individual region championship in the 400 meter dash with a 56.89 time. She then set the tone in the 4×100 relay, helping the Lady Warriors finish second. In the 4×400 relay, she guided the group to a region championship.
She was only getting started. Gearing then won the long jump region title with a jump of 17-05. She also took top spot in the triple jump with a 37-06.50.
In total, Gearing tallied four region titles and one runner-up honor.
Lepkoske did much of the same for the boys, helping the Warriors to a second place finish as a team. He started with an individual region title in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.25. He again beat all region runners in the 200 meter dash (23.04).
He was the second leg in the region runner-up 4×100 relay team, and the first leg of the 4×400 region runner-up group. A true athlete, Lepkoske also finished third overall in shot put.
In total, Lepkoske took home two individual region titles, two runner-up finishes and a third place finish.
