With very little soccer left to be played in 2018, we break down each team’s chances of making the state playoffs (boys and girls).
BOYS
WHO’S IN: Dawson County, Habersham Central, Lumpkin County, Rabun County
WHO’S OUT: Towns County, Union County, White County
WHO’S GOT WORK TO DO: Banks County, Stephens County
GIRLS
WHO’S IN: Dawson County, Lumpkin County, Rabun County, White County
WHO’S OUT: Banks County, Habersham Central, Union County
WHO’S GOT WORK TO DO: Stephens County, Towns County
Banks County
BOYS: 2-13-1 (2-3-1; T-4th 8-AA) 5% Chance
GIRLS: 3-11 (2-3; 5th 8-AA) 0% Chance
Boys are tied for fourth with Monticello in region play, but they don’t play each other at all according to Eurosport Scoreboard…we’re not sure what that means for them. The girls are locked into the fifth spot in region, so are mathematically eliminated.
Dawson County
BOYS: 5-6 (3-2; 3rd 7-AAA) 100% Chance
GIRLS: 9-2 (4-1; 2nd 7-AAA) 100% Chance
Dawson County boys and girls are both locked in. The Tigers are fortunate to have beaten Lumpkin County, so worst case if they lose their finale against East Hall, they’ll hold a tie-break over Lumpkin and Fannin (should Fannin win). If North Hall wins their game and Dawson loses to East Hall, the Tigers will at worst be fourth in the region. The girls long ago secured a state playoff spot, and a home playoff game as well.
Habersham Central
BOYS: 7-8 (6-4; 3rd 8-AAAAAA) 100% Chance
GIRLS: 3-11-2 (2-8; 5th 8-AAAAAA) 0% Chance
The Raiders are back in the playoffs after a one-year hiatus, while the Lady Raiders are eliminated from playoff contention.
Lumpkin County
BOYS: 7-7-1 (3-3; 4th 7-AAA) 100% Chance
GIRLS: 10-3-1 (4-2; 3rd 7-AAA) 100% Chance
The girls locked up the #3 spot in region. The boys dropped some close matches, but worst case if North Hall and Fannin both win their final region games, they’re all tied for fourth…but Lumpkin beat them both so they’re definitely in.
Rabun County
BOYS: 6-3 (4-1; 3rd Region 8-AA) 100% Chance
GIRLS: 3-6 (3-2; 4th Region 8-AA) 100% Chance
If the Cats can beat Putnam in the finale, they’ll take the #2-seed out of 8-AA, earning a home playoff match. Worst case, they’re staying at #3. The girls are locked into the #4-seed.
Stephens County
BOYS: 2-9 (0-3; 6th 8-AAAA) 5% Chance
GIRLS: 6-5-1 (0-3; 6th 8-AAAA) 10% Chance
Two region games left for the Lady Indians…they MUST win both against Jefferson and Oconee to get into the top four. The Indians are in the same boat. They HAVE to win both to tie for fourth with Jefferson and earn the tie-breaker over the Dragons to make the playoffs.
Towns County
BOYS: 0-10 (0-5; 7th 8-A) 0% Chance
GIRLS: 7-3 (3-1; 2nd 8-A) 90% Chance
Something crazy would have to happen for the girls not to score high enough in the power ratings to not make the playoffs. They are set to finish as runner-up in the region.
Union County
BOYS: 3-8-1 (0-6; 7th 7-AAA) 0% Chance
GIRLS: 8-6 (1-5; 6th 7-AAA) 0% Chance
White County
BOYS: 7-8-1 (0-4; 5th 7-AAAA) 0% Chance
GIRLS: 7-6-2 (2-2; 3rd 7-AAAA) 100% Chance
The Lady Warriors are in to the playoffs for the fifth straight year, and have locked up the #3-seed!
