In the aftermath of our “Do-or-Die” segment on Friday, we dissect each team’s status heading into the final week of the regular season.
WHO’S IN: Rabun County
WHO’S OUT: Banks County, Lumpkin County, Union County, Towns County
WHO’S GOT WORK TO DO: Dawson County, Habersham Central, Stephens County, White County, Commerce, Tallulah Falls
Banks Co Leopards
RECORD: 12-14 (6-6 Region 8-AA)
STANDINGS: 5th
GAMES LEFT: 3 (0 REGION)
CHANCES: 0%
The Leopards are out of the playoff race after dropping both to Oglethorpe County. Banks has three games against non-region opponents.
Commerce Tigers
RECORD: 14-11 (5-3 Region 8-A)
STANDINGS: 5th
GAMES LEFT: 3
CHANCES: 70%
The Tigers have played well enough to grab a 1A Public State Playoff spot. However, there are three games left on the slate, so a couple more wins couldn’t hurt to make sure that’s a lock.
Dawson Co Tigers
RECORD: 11-14 (7-8 Region 7-AAA)
STANDINGS: 5th
GAMES LEFT: 3
CHANCES: 20%
Dawson County got a huge win over East Hall to salvage the series. Now, the Tigers need Union County to take two out of three against East Hall, and Dawson must up-end defending state champions North Hall and take no less than two out of three.
Habersham Central Raiders
RECORD: 12-11 (4-8 Region 8-AAAAAA)
STANDINGS: Tied 4th
GAMES LEFT: 3
CHANCES: 50%
All eyes on Habersham, as this three-game set with Dacula decides it all beginning Monday. Whoever wins the series is in the state playoffs.
Lumpkin Co Indians
RECORD: 12-13 (4-11 Region 7-AAA)
STANDINGS: 6th
GAMES LEFT: 3
CHANCES: 0%
Finish strong against GAC in an attempt to take momentum into the off-season.
Rabun Co Wildcats
RECORD: 9-13 (8-4 Region 8-AA)
STANDINGS: 3rd
GAMES LEFT: 4
CHANCES: 100%
A split with Social Circle, with the Redskins scoring more runs means Rabun falls to the #3-seed in 8-AA. They’re in, so now it’s time for a final tune-up.
Stephens Co Indians
RECORD: 19-8 (5-7 Region 8-AAAA)
STANDINGS: T-4th
GAMES LEFT: 3
CHANCES: 50%
Just like Habersham, it’s down to a winner-take-all series finale. If the Indians can win two out of three against St. Pius, they’ll get the state playoff #4 spot from 8-AAAA.
Tallulah Falls Indians
RECORD: 10-10 (2-6 Region 8-A)
STANDINGS: 9th
GAMES LEFT: 4
CHANCES: 10%
1A Private state playoffs are hard to get into. The Indians have been decent this year, but with four games left, the pressure is on to win out if they want to be in the postseason.
Towns County Indians
RECORD: 2-17 (0-8 Region 8-A)
STANDINGS: 10th
GAMES LEFT: 4
CHANCES: 0%
Union Co Panthers
RECORD: 8-18 (1-14 Region 7-AAA)
STANDINGS: 7th
GAMES LEFT: 3
CHANCES: 0%
Nothing to fight for here but momentum and potential spoiler if the Panthers can take the series against East Hall. That would open the door for Dawson County to have a shot at making state.
White Co Warriors
RECORD: 7-16 (1-8 Region 7-AAAA)
STANDINGS: 5th
GAMES LEFT: 3
CHANCES: 10%
Three-game set against Maris (6-3 in region). If the Warriors can take two out of three, they leapfrog Chestatee for the #4 spot. Anything less and they’re out.
