Winter sports have come to a close for all of our locals, meaning we can conclude the running order of the BLITZ Cup Standings heading into the very busy spring sports season.
BANKS – 126 PTS
COMMERCE – 100 PTS
RABUN – 94 PTS
DAWSON – 83 PTS
STEPHENS – 65 PTS
WHITE – 58 PTS
TALLULAH FALLS – 46 PTS
TOWNS – 44 PTS
UNION – 28 PTS
HABERSHAM – 27 PTS
LUMPKIN – 25 PTS
Banks, as you may remember, held a two-point lead over Rabun at the end of the Fall Sports season, with Commerce 20 points back from Banks County in third place. Commerce has climbed rapidly, but Banks County has widened its lead.
Banks County received nearly all of its winter points from the success of both basketball programs, with the Lady Leopards and Leopards both wining a region title, being ranked as high as #2 in the state, and both making deep playoff runs. Dawson County’s basketball programs also gave them a huge boost here, as it appears to be a race to consist of four schools – Banks, Commerce, Rabun and Dawson. Stephens and White County have a shot, but would need nearly every spring sport to be atop its region and perform well in state.
