The 2017 season for the Jefferson Dragons was another solid year, marking the seventh straight season in which they made the state playoffs. The 10-3 4A Quarterfinals run saw them put up 441 points (33.9 per game).

The 2018 schedule has been released for Gene Cathcart’s team, as they move down into region 8-AAA. “New Region, Same Goal” for the Dragons, who will look to replace one of the all-time best in RB Colby Wood, who finished his career with 5,785 rushing yards, 852 receiving yards, 89 total TDs (6,637 total yds), 100-plus tackles, 10 interceptions and a solid 3.5 GPA. Jefferson also loses Bryce Moore (Tuscolum commit), a mainstay at quarterback.

However, holdovers Colby Clark, Aaron Hall, Sammy Elegreet, Garmon Randolph, JT Middleton and Zac Corbin provide plenty of big-time playmakers to make as deep or deeper of a run in 2018.

Cathcart is a long-time winning coach for Habersham Central (2003-08; 40-27), Greenwood, SC (2009-13; 58-12), Seneca, SC (2014; 9-3) and Jefferson (2017; 10-3). He has 50 wins in the state of Georgia and 117 total wins, including making thee state championship games in a row at Greenwood, winning it all in a perfect 15-0 2012 season. He’s only coached three teams that didn’t make the state playoffs.
