Banks County and West Hall squared off in Homer Tuesday night in an early season battle. For the girls, the game lived up to its hype, as the #7 Lady Spartans managed to hold on for a 52-46 win over #6 Banks County.
The #2 Leopards cruised to an easy 87-73 win over West Hall, leading by 25 points at one point during the third quarter.
The Lady Spartans were led by the extremely talented Anna Mckendree, who poured in a game-high 31 points, including five three-pointers. After scoring 13 in the first half, Mckendree put up 18 more in the second half to secure the win.
It didn’t come easy, as Allison Smith (19 points) and Jaycie Bowen (13 points) kept the Lady Leopards in contention. However, Banks County held only a brief 6-5 lead after a Smith triple in the first quarter. Many times they’d pull within one possession, but couldn’t manage to tie or take the lead.
In the boys’ game, the Leopards got off to a very quick 7-0 lead on a quick burst of shots in the opening seconds. They led 23-14 at the end of the first and 46-25 at half time. Dylan Orr showcased his dunking skills once again, as did Darius Bonds.
The Leopards (4-0) got a game-high from sharpshooter Gabe Martin, who dropped 22 points. Orr added 15, while Carl Cleveland chipped in with 12 and Bonds 10. Wes Ledford also had 10, giving five Leopards double-digit scoring efforts.
